MM Donald Essay
MM Donald Essay MM Donald Essay INTRODUCTION It is true that one thing that is constant is change; change sometimes defines progress and success and other times portends failure, either way, a new order is always on the horizon. The business world has experienced many changes over time on the fronts of paradigm, philosophy, roles and conventions. The business world has been through the highs and lows, the drought and abundance; business organizations globally from SMEs to MNCs; from the third world to the developed world have had their fair share of the economic gloom and bloom; some have lived through the storm while others have drowned. The commonality between the latter and former is the process of change; how it came about, its impact and its aftermath. There is a causal relationship between changes in the external business environment of an organization is changes internally within an organization; since external changes are out of the organizationââ¬â¢s jurisdiction, it exerts far-reaching implications which could mean disruption or sustenance; a problem or an opportunity for the internal business environment of an organization. The difference between life and death for an organization is the nature of its strategic plan; an organization will either have a proactive or reactive strategic plan. Ceteris paribus, the survival of an organization when the forces of change hit, is determined by its ability to preempt change, prepare for its trajectory and manage its impact. A ââ¬Å"reactive or fire brigadeâ⬠orientation certainly spells doom for an organization(Robbins, et al., 2012). Beyond survival, an organization will thrive depending on the point on the broad spectrum of proactive strategic planning it is; preempting, preparing and managing the forces of change both positive and negativecall for a degree of internal change which is defined and instigated (sequel to) by innovative and flexible systems, well-integrated processes, robust human capital, and critical evaluation of core business functions as well as sound implementation mechanismsas part of an organization-wide strategy for sustainability and competitiveness(Mindtools, n.d). Kraft Foods is one of such organizations that has taken a proactive approach to its strategic planning, it has taken conscious efforts to remain competitive in a rapidly-changing market place; in the light of this, Kraft Food has redefined the roles of accountants to become key human capital known as ââ¬Å"Planning Analystsâ⬠who are the custodian of the future rather than historians. We explore further, the tactics, proce sses, structures and strategic tools Kraft Foods deploys toward its proactive strategic planning and quest to remain dominant in a highly competitive market(Ackoff, 1981). Category Teams at Kraft Foods Definition of Cross-functional Teams Category teams at Kraft Foods are defined by their cross functional nature; The most simple definition of cross-functional teams (or CFTs) is groups that are made up of people from different functional areas within a company- marketing, engineering, sales, and human resources, for example. These teams take many forms, but they are most often set up as working groups that are designed to make decisions at a lower level than is customary in a given company. They can be either a company's primary form of organizational structure, or they can exist in addition to the company's main hierarchical structure; the former is the case with Kraft Foods(Inc, 2015).As a proactive organization with very clear and coherent goals to remain competitive and achieve sustainable growth, Kraft Foods took a novel approach to its management of its internal business environment which identified and reviewed critical processes in its operations, and organizational structure. Decentralization Vs Centralization: The Suitability of Cross-functional Teams An organization shouldnââ¬â¢t get its corporate core too far from its marketplace, businesses and of course, its customers otherwise it could slow down growth and

Answer 2 questions - Essay Example This was contrary to the Englandââ¬â¢s Protestants where he contended that, once the Irish children (who constituted the biggest population) attain the age of maturity usually resulted to being thieves. Since, they could not beg like their mothers in the streets. Swift groups the entire population in two broad groups, which is according to their nationalities besides their denominations and economic stability. The Irish, which are the Catholics normally in his work, represent the lower class of beggars who should sell their children while young to revive both the state and their economy. He also compares the children of the wealth English people with those of the Irish where the latter are many and mainly languishing in abject poverty. In addition, Swift compares the two denominations where the catholicââ¬â¢s population is exceedingly poor contrary to the Protestants. This is evident from the Swiftââ¬â¢s mode of salvaging both the poor and the stateââ¬â¢s economy, where he suggests selling of children while at a tender age. Since, at this stage they are fat and can fetch considerable money, hence encouraging intimacy among the Irish couples besides becoming economically stable (Swift). Unexcused absence in learning institutions over the years up to date has become an unsolved issue despite both parents and instructorsââ¬â¢ efforts in reporting the truants to the relevant authorities. This is not an effective solution because the truants despite the immense coercion from both the relevant authorities and instructors continue to be absent. Hence, hardening them to the extent of becoming potential criminals where dealing with the law does not scare them. The most effective solution will entail assigning them diverse responsibilities in school where they will not be able to avoid the interaction with the instructors. These responsibilities encompass being student leaders and hold other posts where they will not have

Its etymology is traced to words such as the Middle Dutch fokken, Germanic term ficken, English firk and Scottish fukkit, all associated with sex. The original definition of the F-word is ââ¬Å"sex with violence and pleasure with painâ⬠(Stephey). Although the word implies pleasure which should not be an embarrassing experience, it actually is a private affair where the pleasure is achieved by exposing private parts- something that no one would definitely want to perform in public. Understandably, the F-word has a sexual connotation that it makes people stare at or get offended by those who use it. Some intelligent people who did not want to use the word directly used it in acrostics such as ââ¬Å"Fornication under consent of the kingâ⬠and the popularly known Irish police blotter inscription ââ¬Å"for unlawful carnal knowledgeâ⬠(Stephey). ââ¬ËFornicationââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ëcarnalââ¬â¢ clearly imply sexual acts which for generations has been a subject matter that remained closed to discussion. As sex is to be performed in private places at private moments, the word should also be treated with such respect and privacy. Nevertheless, with the prevalence of movies, songs and other literary works and artists uttering the word in public, the F-word has become a common word pronounced by almost every individual from different walks of life, regardless of where they are. The word perhaps got into the limelight when highly respected political figures used the word repeatedly as opposed to what was expected from them. George Bush is known to have used the word openly before he was elected president an d his vice president, Dick Cheney, also used it on the senate floor. ââ¬Å"No one is shocked that these people use such language but as statesmanship, itââ¬â¢s not exactly Lincolnesqueâ⬠(Achenbach). This declaration shows tolerance to the verbal pronunciation of the word by anybody, whether popular or ordinary figures however, there is also the recognition of a line that should be drawn when saying the word. First and foremost, the aforementioned politicians are educated people who are expected to act and talk as well-mannered individuals. Thus, Achenbach coined his word ââ¬Å"Linconesqueâ⬠, pointing to the revered statesman, Lincoln and mentions that the actions of the two politicians mentioned earlier are not in line with the example the former showed. On the other hand, the statement that no one is shocked with their use of the word shows that it is well-understood because it is a human word uttered by human beings. Although Bush and Cheney are politicians, they a re also human beings who have similar needs as other people. Therefore, it does not come as a shock when they are heard saying the F-word however, they should have been more careful in their utterances because it still is considered a private word, having an explicit sexual connotation (Achenbach). Nevertheless, there is also the consideration that ââ¬Å"the reason why it is used so often is because it has escaped the bonds of its sexual originâ⬠(Achenbach). When Cheney told a Democratic senator to F_ _ _ himself, he

Evidence, Proof and argument Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3250 words
Evidence, Proof and argument - Essay Example As the jury, it is your duty to decide fairly, dispassionately and impartially based on the evidence presented by the prosecution4 since the burden of proving the guilt of defendant Duncan lies with the prosecution5 and owing to this stringent requirement, its case must stand and fall on its own merits. The prosecution cannot assert that the evidence for the defence is weak. Any claim therefore by the prosecution that this defendant has not established a valid defence should not be entertained. I would like to emphasize that the duty to prove the guilt of this defendant is the sole responsibility of the prosecution6. This defendant need not do anything since the law presumes his innocence until proven otherwise. However, Members of the jury, I would likewise caution you that the proof required of the prosecution is not absolute certainty that this defendant has committed the grievous act he is accused of. The prosecution is simply required to prove beyond a reasonable doubt(fn-case) that this defendant is guilty. Judgment beyond a reasonable doubt simply requires moral certainty that this defendant committed the offence charged. ... With that as a backdrop, let us proceed with the task at hand. This defendant is indicted for the murder of Simon Chapman by allegedly plunging the knife into the victimââ¬â¢s heart with intent to hurt and cause him serious harm. The death of Simon Chapman allegedly resulted from the acts of this defendant who was then 15 years old. Allow me, Members of the Jury to walk you through the undisputed factsââ¬âthe decedent, Simon Chapman and his friend Christopher Jones (Jones) were sitting in a coach aboard a train late at night when two boys, defendant Duncan Moore and David Parker (David) were smoking and running about the train passing from one carriage to another. Christopher Jones chided the boys for smoking and to which they replied to ââ¬Å"fuck offâ⬠. At this point, Davidââ¬âthe younger of the twoââ¬âdecided to pester Jones by grabbing his briefcase. A commotion ensued where Jones pushed David who retaliated with a punch landing on the Jonesââ¬â¢ face. As Jones was about to hit David again, Duncan intervened. The ruckus is now between Jones and Duncan. They were throwing punches at each other when decedent Chapman arose from his sleep and seeing that Jones was being hit by Duncan, he, in turn, struck Duncan with his umbrella. Duncan fell on his back and decedent Chapman straddled him, the two went on throwing punches against each other when the fracas stopped. Decedent Chapman was stabbed with the use of a kitchen knife. Thereafter, two boys alighted on the next train stop. Based on this undisputed facts, you shall decide if this defendant stabbed the victim or is there a probability that somebody else on that train who could be the culprit. Before we move on to the evidence presented by either side, it is important that I discuss the

An Overview Of Trends In Tourism
An Overview Of Trends In Tourism Tourism is a rapidly changing industry. Outline the key trends in tourism demand at the start of the 21th century and examine their impact on accommodation providers. Tourism is a travel outside for the usual environment. People travel for recreational, leisure or business purposes. The 21th Century tourism has become a popular global leisure activity that will grow in new heights as it becomes more accessible to a larger cross section of the global population. The tourism industry is one of the most resilient and dynamic sectors of the economy and will result in commensurate economic opportunities for developed and emerging destinations around the world. A big number of challenges will be also created in attracting and serving increased tourism demand and in mitigating any potential negative externalities that will emerge as a result of tourisms rapid growth. The tourist industries of the successful destinations will strike a sense of balance in developing by monitoring international trends, ensuring that the benefits of tourism are more than any potential negative impact and achieve a more fair distribution of tourism profits. Tourism is a profi table business and that is a good reason for countries to focus on honing their abilities in tourism. The 21th century improves that tourism is a rapidly changing industry. In 2001 was a decrease of 0, 6% in international tourist arrivals, compared with 2000, and the decrease is continued for the first six months of the 2002 of 0, 2%. In 2008, there were over 922 million international tourist arrivals, with a growth of 1.9% as compared to 2007. International tourism receipts grew to 642 billion euro in 2008, which mean an increase in of 1.8%. The international demand for a travel suffered a slowdown that began in June 2008, as a result of the late 2000 recession. During the first eight months of 2008 the growth from 2007 to 2008 was only 3.7%. The markets of Asian and Pacific were affected. Europe stagnated during the summer, while the Americas performed better, reducing their expansion rate but keeping a 6% growth from January to August 2008. During the same period the Middle East continued its rapid growth reaching a 17% growth as compared to the same period in 2007. This slowdown on international tourism demand was also reflected in the air transport industry, with a negative growth in September 2008 and a 3.3% growth in passenger traffic through September. The hotel industry also reports a slowdown, as room occupancy continues to decline. During September and October the global economic situation deteriorated dramatically, as a result of the global financial crisis. For the remaining of 2008 the growth of international tourism is expected to slow even further continuing into 2009. The slowdown in demand growth has already hit the top spender countries. The long-haul travel is the most affected by the economical crisis. This negative trend intensified as international tourist arrivals fell by 8% during the first four months of 2009, and the decline was exacerbated in some regions due to the outbreak of the influenza AH1N1 virus. During 21th century tourism industry is characterized by numerous issues and trends that present threats and opportunities. Many countries suffered from terrorist threats that have been increased. After the attacks in New York and Washington that followed by two wars, in Afghanistan and Iraq and continued with terrorist attacks in the Bali (bombing 2002 and 2005), in London, Madrid, Bangkok and other destinations. The result of this terrorist attacks is to increase the need of people for safety and security. These procedures are creating inconvenience. Inconvenience we see at the airports with longer lines and in visa policies and standards that are stricter. Another issue of this century is that China growth into a large source markets in the Asia Pacific region. China has become a primary focus of the worlds tourism industry and the Chinese nationals have been increasingly visiting international destinations and this trend will continue to increase from now on. During this century new destinations are coming to the tourism market. India, Egypt, South Korea, Vietnam, New Zealand, South Africa, Eastern Europe and the Philippines have been recently launched. As a result competition to mainstay destinations, such as Australia, Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia, increases. The UNWTOs Tourism 2020 Vision forecasts that international arrivals are expected to reach nearly 1.6 billion by the year 2020. The total tourist arrivals by region shows that by 2020 the top three receiving regions will be Europe (717 million tourists), East Asia and the Pacific (397 million) and Americas (282 million), followed by Africa, the Middle East and South Asia. Regions like Europe and America are expected to show lower rates. Europe will achieve the highest level of arrivals, although there will be a decline from 60% in 1995 to 46% in 2020. It will be fast grow in the long-haul travel worldwide at 5.4% per year over the period 1995-2020, than intraregional travel, at 3.8%. In an attem pt to increase the value and synergy for the tourist and the participating economies the emergence of sub-regional cooperative agreements is on the rise. In the long term prospects is also to increase the awareness and consciousness among travellers for the sustainable and green tourism. For many countries tourism is vital. Greece, Thailand, Egypt, Fiji, Maldives are examples of these counties due to the large intake of money for businesses with their goods and services and the opportunity for employment in the service industries associated with tourism.à ¶ These service industries include hospitality services, such as accommodations, including hotels and resorts. Even with problems related to the global economic slowdown, travel and tourism are already part of consumer behavior. That mean that people like to travel are still willing to travel. The European countries have observed increases in domestic tourism, more travel within the same region, increases in travel by road and rail, increases in the individual trips, more direct booking, and an increased use of low-cost airlines. Some changes are temporary but many of them are structural. The supply has two main elements, the destinations and the industry. The future of the destinations depends on their ability to adapt to demand. The effects are more visible in the industry. The tour operators and the accommodation providers have been hit harder by the weakness of the outbound markets, later booking, the tendency towards shorter length of stay, and cost-cutting on business trips. The industry has to adapt to these new facts. The hotels all over the world enjoyed a boom through mid 2007. The levels of the occupancy were high as the room rates and the levels of the travelers were strong. However, the global financial crisis put a damper on hotel occupancy that continued into 2008 and 2009. A big number of hotel construction projects have been cancelled. Travel and tourism operators best-positioned to suffer the least damage are those able to offer low-priced options. In order to avoid losing sales à ¶during the periods of economic slowdown hotels and airlines have increasingly invested in low-cost brands. This economic downturn led to an increase of demand for low and mid-priced hotel and dec reased the demand for luxury hotels. The travellers looking for economy travel accommodation. On the other hand the average daily room rates become higher because of the non-existed competition and the low number of chained hotel outlets. http://www.ncsu.edu/tourismextension/documents/top10traveltrends.pdf http://www.ensino.uevora.pt/tmp/cursos/PPT/TIC/aula_02_anexo2.pdf http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tourism http://www.traveldailynews.com/pages/show_page/7543-Tourism-Trends-by-Tourism-Control-Intelligence http://www.tiac-aitc.ca/english/documents/advocacy/2009/2008StatisticsCompendiumFinal.pdf

Is the European Monetary Union a disaster? ? Discuss Essay examples --
Abstract This essay evaluates the development of the EMU; a system that only came into effect three years ago. Through the lack of recent literature most of the evidence are derived from articles of various sources. The essay takes into consideration that the EMU is embedded in a generally declining world economy. It illustrates why the EMU did not reach their targeted goals immediately and points out shortcomings in the architecture of the EMU in the Maastricht Treaty that ought to be reformed. It takes the viewpoint that although since the introduction of the Euro there is an apparent recession in the Euro area countries, it is not entirely to be blamed on new currency and that the allegation that the EMU is a disaster is totally unfounded. For over thirty years now a European Monetary Union has belonged to the articulated aims of the European Union. All previous attempt to establish a Monetary Union, such as the so-called ââ¬Å"Werner- Plansâ⬠in 1979 through the European Monetary System (EMS), failed though. In 2002 the EMU finally was put into full effect. Now that the Euro- countries have experienced three years with the Euro, it is possible to make a preliminary assessment of the Euro. à à à à à In order to detect whether ââ¬ËEMU is a disasterââ¬â¢ one has first to establish the meaning and context in which the term ââ¬Ëdisasterââ¬â¢ is used in relation to this question. The Oxford Dictionary defines the term ââ¬Ëdisasterââ¬â¢ as a ââ¬Ëcomplete failureââ¬â¢ . In accordance to this definition one would expect the European Monetary Union to have an utter negative impact on the Euro countries, this could include a weak currency and business activity, a high inflation rate, a refusal of acceptance of the new currency from the citizens and a counter effect on the aim towards deeper European integration. In order to fulfil the aims of this essay, it will try to analyse the impact of the introduction of the Euro with the following criteria: first, it will outline the intentions for the introduction of the Euro and the advantages economist and member states had hoped to gain from it. Next, the essay will look at the reaction the Euro has caused in the economi c and business cycles of the euro-area states and assess the capability of the European Central Bank (ECB) to deal with economic fluctuation. The next step will be to analyse the reaction of the public to th... ...bsp;à à à European Central Bank EMUà à à à à à à à à à European Monetary Union GDPà à à à à à à à à à Gross Domestic Product HCIPà à à à à à à à à à Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices SGPà à à à à à à à à à Stability and Growth Pact Bibliography Pearsall, J.
